Refurbished laptops often look and feel like new, but can't be sold as new. Here's what happens - a customer returns a laptop to Dell, this could be for many reasons including changing their mind, a small cosmetic issue like a scratch or there is a fault. Dell then sell these returned laptops to partners such as FYL Direct. Our team of engineers test them, refurbish them if necessary, and we sell them on our website. Don’t confuse ‘refurbished’ with ‘used’ or ‘reconditioned’ – our laptops look and feel like new – and in many cases they are new. Find out more about refurbished laptops.

By law, refurbished items have to be labelled as such when they're resold. Some customers prefer a new laptop straight from the factory. That desire for newness shows in the difference in prices for new and refurbished laptops, similar to the way a new car loses value immediately after you drive it home from the dealership. We think refurbished laptops offer a great value option for people looking for a higher spec and a good quality product.

Refurbishing depends on the condition of the returned item. Some are new and have never been opened by the customer - these are simply put through our testing process. Others may need to have a screen or casing replaced or may need a new operating system to be installed etc. Whatever happens during the refurbishing process, every laptop is rigorously tested by our engineers and sold as 'refurbished' with our 12 month warranty. This means that you come direct to us should there be any issue and we will sort it for you.

With a refurbished laptop you will save up to 40% off RRP, you'll normally get a better spec and you're helping the environment. The UK is the second biggest generator of e-waste in the world. In 2019 we produced 1.45million tonnes of electrical waste. With approximately 500,000 tonnes that was thrown away rather than recycled. This huge waste of resources such as steel, copper, silver, gold and aluminium has a cost to the environment and our pockets. Buying refurbished means that you are helping to reduce e-waste, reduce your carbon footprint and help the environment.

A slow running laptop can be for a number of reasons. It could be that your operating system is corrupt, so you may need a Windows 10 reload. You may not have enough storage so you could replace or upgrade your hard drive. Installing a new processor can help improve your computing power, too. If you have some computing knowledge, then you could check out our parts for sale and make the changes yourself. Alternatively, try our UK-wide laptop repair service and we can do a full service and healthcheck with the aim of optimising and speeding up your laptop.

If you order before 1pm then our aim is to have your laptop delivered the next working day.

All laptops and PCs come with a 1 year warranty from FYL Direct. Your sales invoice acts as your warranty. If you have a problem, just call us on 01484 444 662. N.B. This is not a Dell warranty, as the products are refurbished and tested by us we offer the warranty.

UK Delivery

For laptops, desktops and monitors, delivery is free in the UK. For smaller items, such as accessories and parts, the delivery cost is usually £5. Exact delivery costs are specified at the checkout. For laptops, desktops and monitors, we aim to deliver on the next working day if you order before 1pm. This is not always possible, but you should expect your product to arrive within at least 3 days in the UK. We use DHL and DPD couriers for our delivery and collection service. International Delivery

For laptops, desktops and monitors, overseas delivery is £35. For smaller items, such as accessories and parts, the international delivery cost is usually £12. Exact delivery costs are specified at the checkout. For laptops, desktops and monitors, we aim to deliver within 10 working days overseas. We use DHL and DPD couriers for our delivery and collection service. 

You can cash in your old laptop with FYL Direct - whether it is new, old or even broken. Just complete our 'Get a quote' form with as much info as possible and we'll email you with a quote. If you like the quote then we'll arrange collection of the laptop. Then after we've completed our inspection to check it is as described, we will pay you.

Yes, we repair laptops - our engineers can fix any laptop and any problem. We cover mainland UK with our laptop repair service and can fix laptop problems including dropped laptops, spillages, faulty graphic chips, power issues, broken screens, run out of storage and laptops that run slow. All you need to do is complete our 'Laptop Repair - Get a Quote' form and we'll contact you with an estimate for the repair cost. After you accept the quotation, we'll organise to collect, repair and return your laptop.
